Fast Fix

Okay, my glycerin in Jojoba oil did not work. I ended up looking like a polka dotted woman for two days. Further researching this, I learnt glycerin should not be mixed with oil (even though technically jojoba oil isn't an oil but a kind of wax). It does not mix well or work well but rather should be mixed with water. That is the main reason that natural haired folks use glycerin in their daily hair water mix.

Anyways, the other day, after washing my hair (I LOVE WASHING MY HAIR), I noticed that my tub was blocked probably from the stray hairs that comes out when I was combing or maybe from all that milky conditioner I use on my hair. I did not have that plumbing drainy liquid thing that you put in a blocked sink. So I put baking powder and filled the hole that stuff goes through (I know there must be a technical name for this) and put vinegar in there. It fizzled and then went down and my drain has been clean ever since. Cost of both products - probably 1 dollar. Cost of my happy geeky grinning face - priceless!!:-D! Anyways for those that want scientific formulas of what is really going on, here it is: Baking powder is sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and some other stuff, vinegar is mainly acetic acid (CH3COOH) in water.
Na+HCO3- + CH3COOH → CH3COO-Na++ CO2 + H2O
The resulting gas is carbon dioxide, you also get some water and some aqueous sodium acetiate.

Some go ahead and run hot water down the drain to clean things up. I don't.

:)

Till next week.

One of my schools is offering a course in Natural medicine and they will be discussing natural herbs, roots and things of that nature. I am really interested in taking the course because it is being taught by an Indian Biologist who has been working in the realm of Natural Medicine in India for many years but I am so scared I will be overwhelmed....:-s...still thinking. If anyone has taken such a course - how was it? Was it worth the stress??

PS: women as you get into your twenties, please find a complete multivitamin and stick with it. These vitamins are particularly important, Vitamin A, Vitamin B( B2, B6, B12 and other B's), Vitamin C and Vitamin D. Make sure you are taking these..... :)

Reminds me of my Chemistry class...

ps: maintaining natural hair is cool...that's why I'm doing it. Jojoba oil rocks! Haven't been here in a while...

I think I first heard of Jojoba in relation to Natural hair care. (Not natural things for hair, but taking care of 'unprocessed' hair.)

Nice tips
:)

thank you..it is also used for face care because it mimics the natural sebum of the skin and as such tricks the skin into balancing out....:)
